A NUANS Report is Valid for
90 Days
From the date the search was run (printed on page 1 of your report PDF)The 90-Day Rule โ Explained
Every NUANS report has an expiry date exactly 90 days after the search date. Both dates are clearly printed in the header section on page 1 of your report PDF. You must file your Articles of Incorporation with the relevant corporate registry before the expiry date.
This rule applies to all jurisdictions โ Ontario, Alberta, Federal (CBCA), and New Brunswick. There are no exceptions based on the province or the plan you ordered.

Your 90-Day Incorporation Timeline
Here is how a typical incorporation timeline looks from the date you order your NUANS report:
Day 0 โ Order & Receive Your NUANS Report
Your NUANS report is delivered. The 90-day clock starts from the Search Date printed on the report.
Days 1โ7 โ Review the Report & Confirm Your Name
Check the search results for conflicts. If the name looks clear, proceed with your incorporation preparation.
Days 7โ30 โ Prepare Your Articles of Incorporation
Draft your Articles of Incorporation with a lawyer or incorporation service. Collect all required documents.
Days 30โ60 โ File Your Incorporation
Submit your Articles of Incorporation and NUANS reference number to the registry. The sooner the better โ don't leave it to the last week.
Day 90 โ Report Expires
After this date, your NUANS reference number is no longer valid. If you haven't filed, you must order a new NUANS report.
What Happens When a NUANS Report Expires?
If your NUANS report passes its 90-day expiry date, the following happens:
- The NUANS reference number on the expired report becomes invalid
- The corporate registry will reject your incorporation application if you submit an expired reference number
- You cannot renew or extend an expired NUANS report
- You must order a completely new NUANS report and pay for a new search
- The new report will have a new reference number and a fresh 90-day validity window

Yes โ order your NUANS report when you are ready to incorporate, not months in advance. The best practice is to order your report once you have decided on your name, drafted (or are ready to draft) your Articles of Incorporation, and plan to file within the next 30โ60 days. This gives you a comfortable buffer within the 90-day window.
